GO and THE NINES

5/5 Stars
2 movies. 6 stories. Make it a John August night with these two amazingly written, very different films. Each contains three interlocking vignettes, but the similarities end there.
Go, sometimes affectionately dubbed “Son of Pulp Fiction”, is the story of one crazy night as it is experienced by three different groups of twentysomethings. They all start at the same moment at a Los Angeles grocery store, but the perspective follows three separate stories. And instead of cutting back and forth between them, each is kept whole, keeping us in the moment with each group- effectively giving us three movies for the price of one.
The Nines also tells three stories, but this time the same cast is utilized to play different roles in each. The stories do interlock, but telling you any more would be cheating, and the true brilliance of this movie is the mystery. The film is intelligent, intriguing, and well acted all around, but the fact that it can really make you think? That is all too rare.
